Pride Banner

In observance of Pride Month (June), First Parish will hang its Pride Month banner. Designed by Frances Killam, it features the Philadelphia version of the rainbow. It’s called the Philadelphia version because that city was the first to create a rainbow for Pride that includes black and brown stripes to represent marginalized LGBTQ+ communities of color,. The flag was first used in 2017 and has spread to cities as far away as Manchester, UK.

We will also fly a new Progress Pride flag, which includes a five-colored chevron on the classic 6-color rainbow.
The new flag was designed in 2018 by graphic designer Daniel Quasar to place a greater emphasis on “inclusion and progression.” The chevron includes the brown and black stripes, as well as the colors of the Transgender Pride Flag, pink, light blue and white.

In accordance with Chelmsford Center Historic District Commission rules, the Pride Banner will be up for the month of June, except for a week in the middle of the month to observe Juneteenth.
