Standing Committee

Updated October 24, 2009

Chair: Ron Deschene

The Standing Committee meets on the second Tuesday of the month. Our meetings start at 7:00 p.m. with a centering exercise and then we have open forum where anyone from the church can come and address the Committee. There are 10 members of the Standing Committee – nine voting members elected by the congregation and our minister, who is a non-voting member of the Committee. We hold our meetings in the Alliance Parlor and conduct them in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order (at least we try, to the best of our ability!). Our minutes are posted on the bulletin board outside the Alliance Parlor and sent out via email through the official church email list. The agenda for the upcoming monthly meeting is also posted on the bulletin board the Sunday before we meet.

What do we do? Our bylaws charge us with being responsible for the "health and wellbeing" of First Parish. We are responsible for maintaining communication among members and committees, managing Church property, and planning for our short and long-term future. And of course we develop and manage the budget approved by the Congregation at the annual meeting. In short, we facilitate our church’s governance ministry and work with you to ensure the vitality of our community of faith.

The Human Resources Committee is a sub-committee of the Standing Committee.
