First Parish works with 2 Lowell area programs to provide food to those who need it, Community Table and Table of Plenty.
We are always looking for help. For those of you looking for a simple, meaningful way to participate in a worthwhile cause, please consider volunteering to help out at Community Table or Table of Plenty. So, for all those individuals overwhelmed with busy scheduled lifestyles, CT or TOP may be just what you are looking for. No meetings to attend, just a willingness to show up on a serving date with a willing smile.
Community Table is a soup kitchen held at the Lowell Salvation Army to serve the needy in the greater Lowell area. We have been serving hot meals to the homeless and hungry people of Lowell since 1991. First Parish is one of about a dozen churches, businesses and individuals who participate in serving a hot meal twice every weekend of the year.
First Parish is scheduled to serve the 3rd Saturday of every month, always on a Saturday from 12-2:30 pm (prep work – cooking etc - begins at the church earlier). Please contact Michelle Hillman at 978-697-6711 if you need additional information or if you would like to volunteer to help.
Our serving dates for Community Table in 2018/ 2019 are: 12/15/ 2018, 1/19/2019, 2/16, 3/16, 4/20, 5/18, 6/15, 7/20, 8/17, 9/21, 10/19, 11/16, 12/14
Table of Plenty
Table of Plenty is a Chelmsford based organization whose goal is to provide both food and companionship to those in need. Table of Plenty serves a meal each Tuesday from 5pm - 6pm. TOP served its first meal at First Parish in May 2011, and continued serving each Tuesday in our vestry for 7 years. In 2018, the number of people being served by TOP became more that we could comfortably seat in the vestry, so TOP moved to the Chelmsford Senior Center.
First Parish cooks a meal for Table of Plenty on an 8 week rotation. The work is broken up into 1 hour shifts, starting with kitchen prep at 3:00 and ending with cleanup at 6:00. Please contact Frans Janssen for more infromation or to volunteer to help.
