We are moving forward!
The next step in our plans to make the church more accessible and welcoming is to hire an architect to help us figure out exactly what is feasible, based on what our consultant has told us we can afford. We have selected the architect and are contracting Architectural Consulting Services (http://www.acslowell.com/acs-about.html) of Lowell to do the feasibility study. The firm's Principal and Director of Design, Jay R. Mason, has 28 years of experience in the field of architecture. The firm specializes in renovation and historic rehabilitation and is committed to sustainable, energy-efficient design. Mr. Mason is LEED-certified (qualified sustainable designer) and involved with the Lowell Green Building Commission. The firm also has experience with UU churches, having worked on the renovation of the Westford UU church, installing their elevator.
The Task Force will have preliminary feedback from the architect for the congregation before the end of the church year in June. Their next meeting is April 17 at 11:30 am.
Meanwhile, a Fiscal Task Force is being formed to develop a budget and financing plans for the project. The first meeting of the Fiscal Task Force will be April 10 at 11:30 am. All who are interested in contributing to this discussion are invited to attend.
A very big thank you to the Congregation for the extra effort in meeting our revenue target for FY17. Way to go! With the canvass winding down, we wanted to give you an update on the preliminary plans for he capital campaign. We are targeting launching the effort in the fall, in part to have time to complete the design plans and in part so that we do not compete with the annual canvass which supports our operating budget and is conducted in the spring. Some of you have asked if the capital campaign will include opportunities to pay off a pledge over multiple years. The short answer is yes. Exactly what that program will look like is still TBD, but we expect that we will provide opportunities to pay off a pledge to the capital campaign over multiple years, 2,3,4, maybe more.
