It’s going to be a very, very good year. All the choirs are already sounding great and they are growing in size. I feel like our community is thriving, and growing as well. I’m excited about the building and I love seeing the changes each week. My office is almost ready to move into and I appreciate that. (My car has been my temporary office, which has helped contain my mess). I look forward to moving into that brand new, immaculate space.

I have the best Church job around, and I’m not going to take it for granted. There is so much fun-work to do, and I’m savoring every moment of it. I am absolutely psyched about the musical possibilities and have never felt more optimistic. I’ve even devised a new strategy to trick my three young children (twin boys are four and a half now, and the “baby” is 19 months) to let me practice at home. “DANCE PARTY!” They run around like maniacs while I get precious piano time. And they will dance to anything from Bach to Jazz. Good times.

In a blink of an eye, the building will be finished, then the year will be over, then two years, then ten. The rush of time cannot be decelerated, but it can be embraced and steered. That is how I view what you have done with the building project. This current generation of First Parish members has successfully and permanently moved the physical presence of First Parish in the direction toward accessibility and compassion for those with mobility issues. You have steered the rush of time and money in the direction of your collective choosing. It’s really remarkable, and I am proud to be associated with you.

Though I look forward to every Sunday, October 7th will be a little extra fun for me. Ellen is allowing me to plan the service with the help of the wonderful Worship Committee. It’s going to be a music-fest centered around the idea of our authentic stories, our real selves. I hope you will attend even though it’s a holiday weekend. Peace.
