Thank you, everyone, for such a fun service on Music Appreciation Sunday. That service is always a high point of the year for me. Thank you to all the choirs and everyone involved that Sunday. It was so much fun.

I was very moved by the Coming of Age ceremony on May 19th. It is such an honor to hear all the participant’s Credos and see the look of pride on the parent’s faces. That the kids share their thoughts with our community is a beautiful thing. It reinforces our commitment to our youth and to each other. I would like my children to go through the same wonderful tradition.

I would also like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and sentiment regarding my brother’s ill-health. His recovery will be long, so far seeming like a juxtaposition of improvements and set-backs, but I have to believe he will live many more years. The ordeal has made me realize the strength of the sibling bond. Though my brother and I have radically different opinions on countless issues, it does not matter now. The inherent worth and dignity of every person is easy to respect when he is one’s own family member, facing mortality. Perhaps we as a species could someday learn to feel this way about all our brothers and sisters in the broader sense. After all, we are all facing mortality.

On a lighter note, we have a lot of great music coming up in the next few weeks. And, as always, I look forward to seeing you all each Sunday. Thank you.

With Gratitude,
Your Music Director, Steve

Just a note of gratitude to all the choir members of all ages, and really everyone at First Parish, for such a wonderful time on Easter. I love those big services. It’s so much fun to gather that many musical forces into one hour of bliss.

Music Appreciation Sunday is May 5th; another one of those big services. It’s a chance to express our gratitude to all the choir members and volunteers involved with the music program at First Parish. And really, it’s a chance to reflect on just how musical this congregation is. Even those who may feel they can’t really contribute their voices the way they would to like still stand up in body or spirit and fill that Sanctuary with love. It’s beautiful.

Don’t forget about the concert on Saturday May 11th at 4:00 in the Sanctuary, “An Afternoon of Chamber Music”. It will be a program packed with excellent performers playing music of Telemann, Handel, Mendelssohn, and more. Janice and Henry Tervo will perform, as well as returning guests Carsten Kowalczyk, Shaylor Lindsay, David Siegel. The amazing Jess Volk is also playing. I will play as well. Proceeds will be donated to TeamWalk for CancerCare.

Again, I feel the need to express my gratitude to all of you. I look forward to seeing and hearing you all each Sunday. We really have a good thing going here.
