A note from Steve...
Steve Zocchi, Music Director
I am excited to begin another Church year. I can't wait to see you all. This summer has felt too long, and I've missed the spiritual and musical nourishment of First Parish. I look forward to working with all the choirs. Here's a quick reminder of all the ensembles we have at First Parish.
Senior Choir (adult choir) rehearses on Thursday nights at 7:30 in the Sanctuary, starting September 7th. Some ability to read music is required for this group. It's a fun and welcoming ensemble.
Meetinghouse Ringers (bell choir) meets Wednesday nights at 7:30 in the Sanctuary, starting September 6th. Some music reading skills needed. Great group and tons of fun.
Junior Choir meets after church 11:30-12:15 in the Sanctuary, starting on September 17th. All kids age 8 through grade 8 are encouraged to join this group. No singing experience is necessary.
Intermediate Choir is a special commitment for very dedicated youth singers. It meets after church at 12:15-1:15 in the Sanctuary. Kids grade 8 through High School can participate in this group if willing to make the necessary time commitment. (Grade 8 singers must also sing with Junior Choir). Reading music is essential as well as ability to sing on pitch.
Carol Choir is for our youngest singers, age 3 through 7. It meets seasonally at 11:15 in the Sanctuary. It's fun, fun, fun. We have so much wonderful music planned. It's going to be a beautiful, inspiring, and important year.
As always, feel free to contact me anytime with any questions, comments, or just to say hi.
Your music director,
I just want to thank everyone for another amazing year. I am already looking forward to next year, and Iwill miss all of you over the summer. A special note of thanks to all the choirs and parents. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you this year and I appreciate all your efforts. I also want to thank the choirs for the awesome gift certificates you guys gave to me on Music Appreciation Sunday. (To two of my favorite vegan restaurants!) My wife Meghan thanks you as well.
I feel so lucky. Yes, I cherish all the musical aspects of my job at First Parish, but it's more than that. The work feels important because of you. Music in the context of this beloved community is so much more than just notes and rhythm and phrasing. It becomes meaningful and relevant by our intentions and purposes. Our Church is so important. This has become even more clear this year. We have a culture of thoughtfulness and intellectual honesty here at First Parish. We have love, compassion and empathy. We have curiosity and integrity. Knowing I'm working for something I can truly believe in makes me passionate about my job. I love First Parish and I know you do too.
See you in September….
Your Music Director,
