Chair: Kirk Kirkpatrick
The Building Committee (also called House Management) is responsible for the maintenance of the church building, other than what is done by the custodian. Projects are smaller than the capital-intensive projects managed by Long Range Planning (LRP). It has a chair, a small budget, and very little structure at present.
Currently, the needed work is done by a few volunteers and occasional work parties. This is simple, but projects too big for such work, or requiring study, tend to get lost. A backlog of such projects has been building up; see our list of possible projects.
This year we are going to organize the committee a little, so that several project leaders will take responsibility for projects and see them to completion. To help this process along, we will meet about every six to eight weeks during the church year to select new projects for study or action, and to review progress.

In no particular order:
1. In the sanctuary, repair/ replace the drapes between the pulpit and the "green room" where the audio cabinet is.
2. Green room/ pulpit - wire to code, or at least better than extension cords
3. Pulpit -re-upholster the cushions on top. (Best done in summer)
4. Clean up wiring in area by grand piano
5. In the narthex (entrance hall), paint steps and risers to balcony/choir loft, both sides. Consider non-skid rubber mats on stairs.
6. Make window prop for windows in choir loft at tops of stairs so that hymnals are not needed for ventilation.
7.* Outside, arrange for repair/replacement of gutter over kitchen entrance; it needs to drain towards front yard, perhaps by a downspout. In a storm, now, water runs off end to right (towards vestry), causing leakage in windows. End towards vestry should be capped. consider combining with snow slide prevention; get project reviewed; solicit bids
7a. * Gutter over office entrance - set up/fix; gap?
? close office end & downspout near chapel (??)
8. Investigate trading "office" outside doors for "chapel" outside doors; if not feasible, cost replacement office doors. (Issue: office doors failing/need latch rework/ posible frame problems.)
9. There's a small leak in the "attic" of the chapel - entrance from balcony - if it's still leaking. It's never been tracked down, but could easily be fixed w/o major expense if its source was identified.
10. Vestry - fix screen(s); one is present as frame, no screen; entry near kitchen; screen on Littleton st / rt 110 side
11* ** vinyl or aluminum siding on steeple below bell area - save much money vs continued repainting. Study, get quotes.
12. * ** Replace sign at front of church (on the square) - as is, or something grander. Have permit for direct replacement (but may need to be renewed); with conservative design ("like the other churches"), could get approval for larger sign. Study issue, make proposal; follow through.
Attic
13. Plywood platforms around chandelier lowering points for safety. NOTE: electric plugs for chandeliers have been installed.
13a. and plywood as needed for access to points from main catwalk
14. Replace plywood semicircles with window/slatted shutter arrangements as originally present, front and maybe back.
15. What are the "screens' in the attic? Former radiator covers? can we discard?
16. Establish rules & approval system for storing stuff in attic; ad hoc only temporary unless permitted.
Littleton Side
17. check downspout by back "RE" door - source/ functioning?
18. Furnace room - need more efficient use of space; disposal of junk; permit system to store.
19. Paint/ ?$$ replace outside door of pantry
20. Fill hole under pantry door (outside)
21. Wash/ paint big fan
22. Find out how to fix outside shutters so that slats no longer fall out (also problem on Westford side); stage 2, arrange to get fixed.
23. Find a use for the shutters standing outside the furnace room.
Other
24. "LightBulbers" - Go through occasionally - say, once a month or so - and replace any burned out bulbs. Desirable to have 2 people, one or both ladder capable.
