NOLA 2015

First Parish will be heading back to New Orleans in April for our 8th service trip.  We will be going over April Vacation, April 18th through April 25th 2015. We will be working with Saint Bernard Project again this year, and staying at the Annunciation Mission. Adults and High School students (with a parent) are welcome to join us on our trip.

St. Bernard Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping New Orleans area residents recover from the devastation and trauma caused by Hurricane Katrina and the Oil Spill by rebuilding homes, providing mental health support as well as working to create living wage jobs in the area. First Parish's service team worked with St. Bernard Project last year.

nola2011glennAnnunciation Mission is an inter-denominational ministry helping to rebuild New Orleans by providing lodging meals, and project coordination for NOLA volunteers. The Annunciation Mission is affiliated with the Church of the Annunciation which was itself destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina, the members of the chuurch decided to convert their Sunday School building into dormitories to provide low cost rooms for people coming to New Orleans to rebuild. First Parish has stayed at the Annunciation Mission for all but one of our trips.

The trip costs roughly $265 per person for room and board at the Mission, plus the cost of airfare.   The Standing Committee has set aside  money to help defray the cost of the trip for those who need help financially. If you are interested in going with us, contact Joan Coyne, or sign up at the Council of Faith in Action Ministries table at Social Hour.
